FareEats (www.fareeats.coop) is a food ordering application tailored for restaurants, grocery stores, and food-service businesses. By joining as a driver, individuals receive 90% of the delivery fee and a stake in the platform by becoming part of a driver-owned cooperative in their specific locality known as the Local Driver Co-op.

The Local Driver Co-op represents a cooperative model where ownership primarily resides with its members – the drivers. This encompasses various drivers from rideshare, taxi, medallion holders, fleet operators, delivery couriers, and truck drivers.

Defined as an autonomous union of individuals who voluntarily unite to address common economic, social, and cultural requirements and ambitions through collectively-owned and democratically-governed ventures, a cooperative adheres to paramount values such as self-help, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity. Upholding ethical standards of integrity, transparency, social accountability, and community welfare reflect the core ethos of cooperative members.

Guided by a set of principles, cooperatives actively practice their values:

1. Voluntary and Open Membership: Cooperatives are inclusive organizations open to all individuals without discrimination based on gender, social status, race, political inclination, or religion.
2. Democratic Member Control: Members actively participate in decision-making processes and policy-setting within cooperatives through democratic representation.
3. Member Economic Participation: Members contribute equitably to cooperative capital while sharing surpluses for cooperative development and member benefits.
4. Autonomy and Independence: Cooperatives maintain autonomy in their operations and decision-making processes while forming external partnerships that safeguard member control and uphold autonomy.
5. Education, Training, and Information: Cooperatives provide educational resources for member development and awareness initiatives for the general public about cooperative benefits.
6. Cooperation among Cooperatives: Strengthening the cooperative movement by fostering collaboration at local, national, regional, and international levels among cooperatives enhances member service effectiveness.

Becoming a member of the Local Driver Co-op requires a one-time fee of $100 from each driver. However, over 55,000 drivers in the USA and 9,000 drivers in Canada can join without any membership charges. Each member receives shares corresponding to their involvement in the co-op. Additionally, medallion holders receive shares based on their medallion investment level. This investment appreciates with time within the co-op framework. If you choose to discontinue driving or retire from the co-op in the future your investment will be reimbursed proportionally to your driving commitment.
